Ever since the 6th
century BCE, music festivals have been in effect. The first one was part of the
Pythian Games in ancient Greece. Today, music festivals are held all over the
world and some of the best are in the United States. Unfortunately, our
generation missed out on Woodstock but below I’ve listed (in chronological
order) the music festivals that you can attend in your own backyard of Florida
that hopefully will give you the experience of a lifetime.
*While music festivals are
typically held outdoors, recently a new trend of cruise ship festivals has
emerged. Since these ships take off from the Port of Miami, I consider that a
Floridian based event.
1.
Holy Ship: 2/10-2/13/2016
Departs
from Miami, Ticket price: $599-1549
While the title gives off a gospel
vibe, this ship is filled with electronic dance music and DJ’s. The event is
put together by cloud 9 adventures, a company run out of Boca Raton! Travelers
get to enjoy the music and get to explore the Bahamas
2. Monsters of Rock Cruise:
2/22-2/26/2016
Departs from Miami, Ticket price:
$999
This badass cruise is aboard a
Norwegian Cruise Line ship and consists of classic metal bands that only true
fans would enjoy. Again, you would get to enjoy head banging and get to visit
the Bahamas.
3. 9 Mile Music Festival: 2/27/2016
Miami, FL, Ticket price: $56.83
Starring the Marley brothers, grab
your buds and “get together and feel alright”.
4. The Moody Blues Cruise:
2/26-3/1/2016
Departs from Miami, Ticket price:
$899
This cruise is targeted towards a
more middle-aged crowd but is a very relaxing vacation that has many classic
blues rock bands performances and even a stop-over in Key West.
5. Aura Music Festival: 3/3-3/5/2016
Live Oak, FL, Ticket Price: $199
Targeted at new-age hippies, this
festival is located on the Suwannee River and also celebrates yoga and art as
well as jam bands.
6. The Lebrewski Cruise:
3/1-3/5/2016
Departs from Miami, Ticket price:
$499
This voyage features multiple genres
of music and brings together lovers of craft beer.
7. Okeechobee Music Festival:
3/4-3/6/2016
Okeechobee, FL, Ticket price:
$269.50
The inaugural OMF has some of the
most popular artists from the Billboard Hits and will definitely be one for the
books.
8. Gasparilla Music Festival:
3/12-3/13/2016
Tampa, FL, Ticket price: $30-150
Not to be confused with the pirate
parade, this 2 day event features a various group of musical talent and foods
from all around the country.
9. Ultra Music Festival:
3/18-3/20/2016
Miami, FL, Ticket price: $350
Probably one of the most popular
electronic dance music festivals of the decade, it is the biggest rave around
town featuring the biggest names in its category of music.
With all the amazing choices, go
ahead and request a weekend off and drive to one of these local cities! Music
festivals never have the same line-up again, so if you see one you‘re
interested in... You only live once.
*Part 1 of a 2 part series
I really enjoyed this place and you can definitely find me at venues here for more events. I didn't eat anything when on my recent visit, but those around me had truffle fries, pizza, and wings all seemed to enjoy.
